FIRST WAS RED LIGHT.
As a young man, I was working on minimalist LED lights in 2002 and – in parallel – on a necklace made of old glass bottles. Waiting at a red light, I was suddenly surprised by my own idea to merge both designs: illuminated jewelry made of old glass and LEDs.
The jeweLIGHTS were in the world.
THEN WAS A BOOK.
My very first creation was published in the prestigious International Design Yearbook.
Encouraged by this „lucky punch“ – and stimulated by a palette of aesthetically appealing old glass materials that I had discovered in the meantime – I designed an entire collection of jeweLIGHTS in 2006.
TODAY IT’S VARIETY.
In the meantime, pieces from an archive of collected, found and purposefully sought glass materials are waiting to be used in my studio. It simply excites me to explore the potential of artistic light jewelry again and again.
I design compact pieces as well as delicate ones – seemingly sharp-edged as well as gently rounded ones.
Life is diverse, so are people. And so are my creations.

In Marc Mann‘s work, the brilliant colors of LED light merge with old glass beads or apothecary flacons – or even with glass that one would not usually associate with jewelry. Beer glass handles, for example. Or with shards of glass from the Elbe beach that have been rounded by the tides. For Marc Mann, these materials have potential for more – and the more distinctive they are, the more expressive are the one-offs he usually creates from them.
He likes to be inspired by the different, subtle qualities of glass as a material: Its “perfect” patina consists of charming imperfections such as air bubble inclusions, small scratches and traces of wear. Such a lively patina is a delightful creative boost for Marc Mann’s designs. In this context, he regards patina as a “visual storage of time.”
When such a piece of glass is backlit by LED light, the visual effect can be just as fascinating as when Gothic cathedral windows are suddenly flooded with sunlight. A spectacular synthesis of both elements – and at the same time a perfect contrast: here the world of patina in its material decay – there the immaterial, timeless perfection of light.

The playful attempt, paired with passion and perfectionism guides Marc in composing his jeweLIGHTS of glass and light. He enthusiastically drives his search for ever new aesthetics with creative spontaneity.
The fact that he usually comes very close to his vision is largely thanks to a team of dedicated friends – all of them highly specialized experts – who support him in research & development with expertise and equipment: high-precision 3D printing, laser cutting and electronic SMD circuit development are used.
This circumstance explains the remarkably high technical- and craftsmanship level of the jeweLIGHTS objects on the one hand. And on the other hand: this is the only way Marc Mann is in the creative position to perfectly realize minimalistic elegant solutions. Solutions that are both aesthetically pleasing and at the same time “simple & user-friendly”, even for unique pieces.
